Love You Like A Love Song: A romance novel that is cliché but you still love it

A difficult choice as I have three that I enjoy: enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, and fake dating. I went with fake dating for my final choice as it can create extremely entertaining and cute stories when it is done right.

Rare: A book with a female protagonist unlike any other

A plus-size protagonist that is comfortable in her own skin is something more books should include. I also love how this character is a knowledgeable scientist, is witty, and enjoys doing “geeky” activities, like going to comic book conventions, having discussions about her fandoms, and participating in online discussion platforms. I identify with all three pieces and it is rare to find a main character that you can see parts of yourself in.

Look at her now: A character who suffered a lot (physically/mentally) but eventually recovered and is now at the better end of life

Irene finds out her husband was killed in a helicopter crash on New Year’s. Not only is he gone, but he died in a place she had no idea he went as he died in the Caribbean, but she believed he was on a business trip somewhere else. This woman goes through a lot in this series and I love where she ends up by the end.

Wolves: A book that got you out of a reading slump

This novel was the first one I read in April of 2020. This month marked my official “return” to reading where I’ve been officially hooked ever since. I’ve greatly enjoyed Abby Jimenez as a writer, too, and cannot wait to read her third novel in this series later this year!

It ain’t me: A character you used to like but not anymore

Zoey to me was okay and I liked her when I started this series. After reading the second and third, I realized I didn’t like her as much as I thought I did before. I still like her as a character, and I definitely do not dislike her, but the other two, Lana and River were just better in my opinion.

Feel Me: A character you can’t bear to see with anyone else but you

I really loved Bo both in this story and I would not mind meeting him in real life. Superficially, he was described to be good-looking and he is a carpenter, so I can always complete the random projects around the house. For personality, he was kind, patient, understanding, and had a great interest in the environment.

Same Old Love: A book with an unoriginal and unrealistic romance

I did not find Max’s involvement and need to help her realistic, especially in the situation they found themselves in. The story itself was super original, but the romance involved was not.

The heart wants what it wants: A book you regret finishing because you miss reading it a lot

This novel had the three basic components for an enjoyable reading experience: mythology, romance, and good writing. The characters and word choices all fit to make the story as believable as possible and the integration of well-known tales (the Trojan War and Achilles himself) were incredible as it felt seamless.

Back to you: A book you read again and again even though you have other books on your TBR pile

I know this story is not perfect and I might find more flaws during each re-read, but this novel is the one I immediately picture for the enemies-to-lovers troupe and contemporary romance novels in general. I find myself comparing other similar novels to this one as it was just an enjoyable read.

Hit the Lights: A book that just made you forget everything else

I loved the contrast in this story as it not only features two main characters from two generations, but it also takes place in both the country and the city. As a reader, you move between the different mindsets and settings to the point where you become lost in the novel and you’ve reached the end before you know it.

Tell me something I don’t know: A book people keep recommending you which you already have it in your TBR pile

Tons of people have recommended the Folk of the Air series to me and I even got a reminder of it when it was listed as a series Lea wanted to read more of! It is on my TBR and I really hope to get to it soon (at least sometime this year haha)!

I can’t get enough: A book series/world you just want more and more of

Although the third novel is not published yet and I have not even read the second, this is still a series I have come to love and want to read more of!
