~ Goodreads Monday: Curse of the Celts ~

This is a weekly meme where any one can choose a random book from their Goodreads TBR and highlight it. Once you choose a book and create your post, make sure you link and reference the creator, @Lauren’s Page Turners. Eventually, I will try to find a rhyme or reason to my choices, but for now, each week will feature a random one that I mean to read soon!

This Week’s Selection:

Curse of the Celts (Once & Future Queen #2) by Clara O’Connor

Expected publication: March 18th 2021

You are accused of crimes against the Code. How do you plead?

After failing to escape the Roman metropolis of Londinium with Devyn, her lover, and Marcus, her betrothed, Cassandra wakes in inky darkness to find the ground giving way to sand beneath her feet.

All three of them have been carted back to the notorious arena at the heart of the city to stand trial by public vote. Cass knows they must escape at any cost: to warn the Celts of the mysterious blood curse ravaging their kin, to foil the schemes of the imperial council…

To find the fabled Lady of the Lake, the one who could save them all.

But even as the jaws of death close in around her, another threat looms in the shadows, a danger she never could have foreseen, a betrayal that could burn down her entire world.

Fans of The Hunger Games will revel in this sweeping dystopian adventure set in an alternate fantasy universe where the Roman Empire never fell.

I decided to highlight this novel for similar reasons for my choice, Spellmaker, last week. A lot of my friends read and enjoyed Secrets of the Starcrossed, which is the first novel in the series when it was published in January of this year. It sounds like a very fun fantasy read. I added the novel to my TBR and did not think about it after until I saw this one, Curse of the Celts, randomly on Netgalley while scrolling through the pages. I debated about waiting as the third one, Legend of the Lakes, releases this June, but curiosity got the better of me and I wanted to get a jump on the series. Patience for a series to fully release has never been my strong suit. I will be reading both books one and two this week, so if it turns out, then I’ll be eagerly awaiting book three. At least I have tons of other TBRs to distract me between now and June if I become too anxious while waiting for the final novel.
