Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for Uncork My Love by Rich Amooi!
Ivy needs a miracle and a drink—not necessarily in that order. With a struggling winery, the only hope of keeping her dream alive is snagging a gold medal at the annual wine competition. She’s determined to win, but would rather serve warm wine in sippy cups to the judges before ever accepting help from Ted Jacobs, aka Mr. Know-it-All.
Ted wants to catch lightning in a bottle and create the world’s greatest wine, but he’s smart enough to know he can’t do it alone. When he heads to Napa to keep his grandma from ending up in jail (don’t ask), he meets Ivy. She’s as complex and intoxicating as his award-winning cabernet, but as stubborn as the mule next door when she stomps on his offer to collaborate.
Ted knows it’s risky to mix business with pleasure, but if Ivy would only listen, they might just be the toast of the town.
Rich Amooi is a Taleflick Discovery Winner, Readers’ Favorite Gold Medal Recipient, Holt Medallion Finalist, and the Amazon Bestselling author of 16 romantic comedies, including It’s Not PMS, It’s You, Dying to Meet You, There’s Something About a Cowboy, and Madam Love, Actually.
A former radio personality and wedding DJ, Rich now writes romantic comedies full-time in San Diego, California, and is happily married to a kiss monster imported from Spain. Rich believes in public displays of affection, silliness, infinite possibilities, donuts, gratitude, laughter, and happily ever after.
This is a novel that lives up to the romantic comedy name with its well-developed romance and a dash of silliness. You will want to read this standalone novel with a glass of wine in your hand while wearing one of the many t-shirts featured in this novel with their humorous puns! Two winery owners come together with the help of some meddling quirky grandmothers. It is an enemy to lovers’ story with a natural progression to romance. As this is my first novel by Rich Amooi, I have become a fan and will happily read any and all of his other works.
This novel is perfectly set in Wine Country (the area of Northern California popular for wine-making). The three most popular counties are Solano, Sonoma, and Napa, with the surrounding ones also becoming popular with wineries. This story takes place in two of these counties (Sonoma and Napa). I’ve visited Wine Country frequently over the years as I have friends that love to travel there and easily the descriptions of the setting in the novel were excellent translations from reality. There is something different about California’s Wine Country that is unique to others around the world and I found the author did a superb job with portraying the general vibe accurately.
Ted Jacobs is the owner of Dizzy Dog Estates in Petaluma, California (Sonoma County) and is a world-renown wine-maker. He is on a mission to make the world’s greatest wine, but to do it, he believes he would need to blend the grapes from his vineyards with those of his family’s former vineyard in nearby Napa. Unfortunately, it may prove to be more difficult than he imagined as the owner of Half Moon Vineyards (Napa County), Ivy Dobbs, does not have an interest in collaboration. Enter Ted’s grandmother Loretta, who devises a plan to bring Ted to Ivy’s vineyard. Multiple antics occur and Ted and Ivy eventually
Ivy and Ted both have interesting backstories involving their exes that are each explored naturally as the two characters get to know each other. Both characters are very likeable and they slowly open up themselves to both the reader and each other as their story is revealed. There are initial obstacles that the characters must all work through with a final larger dramatic scene taking place towards the end that needs to be resolved. I liked the way that the author handled each situation as it felt both relatable and enjoyable to experience, as a reader.
The story was entertaining with dashes of humor and heart throughout. It is honestly difficult to find fault as I was genuinely entertained from start to finish. In addition to a great story, there is a lot of information about wine from the process to actually make it to the behind-the-scenes features of actually running a vineyard. It is amazing how much goes into running a boutique independent winery as there are tons of tiny details, like wine tours, that a person does not normally think of. There is also the competition for wineries to get their brand out into the world as they can sometimes be made or broken in an instant depending on their status in the community.
Overall, I really would love additional stories featuring Lorretta and Ivy’s grandmother, Sherry, as the two of them are fun team. They could easily have their own quirky spin-off series with some random adventures and I would read them without hesitation. Ted and Ivy were characters that you want to root for as both individuals and as a couple. Ted and Ivy are confident in their own personalities. Ivy’s backstory makes it harder for her to trust others, so it was nice to see her growth. There was no sudden change in her personality, so her journey felt very relatable. This is a light-hearted story that makes the reader smile. There are some deeper moments that were well-integrated and did not take away from the story. Uncork My Love is a great escape read that is perfect for all readers who are fans of the genre or ones that want to give it a try.
