~ Last Year I Was Reading – #1 ~

Last Year I Was Reading is hosted by Maria @ ReadingMaria. Every Thursday (or whichever day you choose), take your current read and compare it to what you were reading this exact time last year.

  • Which one do you like better?
  • What is different about the books?
  • Any special facts/things you want to make note of or bring attention to?

For June, I am giving this new meme a try. I am temporarily putting a hold on my TBR Clean-up posts as it was difficult trying to go through and decide which books to toss. Since I love to do memes, I searched for some Thursday ones. This meme seemed to be interesting, so I decided to give a try this month. If it works, then I’ll work more with the formatting to make this post a more permanent fixture on my blog.

Although the date is not exact, I read and reviewed this novel on June 1, 2020.

I just finished reading Red Queen and posted my review today. I just started One Summer Sunrise and plan to post my review for it tomorrow as part of a blog tour.

While Red Queen and The Little French Bistro could not be more different, I can see some similarities between it and One Summer Sunrise.

Red Queen is the outlier from the three novels as it is a fantasy young adult novel, while the other two are more women’s fiction (with other genres mixed in). The writing styles are different, as well, since they are aimed at different readers. I guess one similarity would be the characters trying to “start again,” although under different circumstances to try and find the best route for survival, again, different approaches and situations.

Now One Summer Sunrise is slightly more similar to The Little French Bistro. Both have characters who wish for changes in their lives and the stories follow their journeys. While One Summer Sunrise focuses on multiple main characters at the same time, The Little French Bistro has one central main character.

Even though I am not finished with One Summer Sunrise, based on initial thoughts, I prefer The Little French Bistro out of the three novels, although all are good reads, in their own way.

Have you read either of these books? What did you think? What book were you reading this time last year and how does it compare to your current read?
