The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

What’s your opinion on love triangle plots? (submitted by Julie @ JadeSky)
I have a love-hate relationship with love triangles. There are three types of triangles in most novels: the most popular where a central character meets one love interest and then an issue moves them towards a new love interest. In these, there is some back and forth about which one the main character will end up with, but it usually ends up being fairly obvious who they will choose.
The second is fairly common as well, where the main character has a love interest and then another love interest is introduced for the sole sake of creating conflict. There is usually not a ton of effort given to why there is actually any reasoning for the love triangle.
The third is the most elusive as it either does not appear in many novels or the author has the intention to use this version, but it ends up being one of the first two. In this love-triangle, the main character genuinely is torn with multiple interests that were naturally introduced. Both make complete sense for the main character and the main character has to emotionally journey to make a choice where the reader is invested and is okay with either choice.
Most attempts to fall into the third category are a cleverly disguised version of the first, so it is very difficult to find a novel to feature a true version of the third. If a novel has the magical third version or a well-written version of the first, then I am okay with reading those types of stories. The one that I have hard time accepting is the second as I am not a fan in the slightest of conflict for the sake of conflict.
How about you? What are your thoughts on love triangles?
