Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
How it works: Each Tuesday will be assigned a topic and then you post your top ten list that fits it. Feel free to add your own spin on the topic to make it work for you! For me, I’m not sure the type of spin I want to put on it, so for now I’ll post fairly straight-forward responses.
I put this month’s topics at the bottom of the post, but you can find the whole list on the host blog. If you don’t have a blog, you’re welcome to participate using other social media or even by putting your list in the comments.
This Week’s Topic: Secondary/Minor Characters Who Deserve More Love
Like many of my other posts, there are way more than ten characters that come to mind when I think of secondary or minor characters that deserve more love. To narrow down my list, I selected a few from my most recent reads and then randomly went through some past novels and selected those where a secondary character immediately came to mind.
Loretta, the grandmother of the main character, Ted, was quirky and run. Easily, I would read about an entire novel surrounding her antics.
Ameen, the quartermaster of the main character, Captain Liana’s ship. He was a fascinating character and, at times, I found myself more invested in his story.
Raikama, Shiori’s, stepmother, is a complex character. While she is a sorcerous, her backstory is interesting and I was fascinated by her motivations throughout the novel.
Maritza may not be the main character, but she was an integral part of the story. She was a strong character and supportive throughout the story, which added to my enjoyment.
No matter if you love or hate Maven, he is incredibly fascinating. He has a lot emotionally that runs through his head every day and I would love to read either a prequel novel about him or the series from his side.
Gideon may not be introduced until the second novel of the series, but he quickly became one of my favorite characters. He has a ton of positives (too many to list) and is one reason why this series still stands out to me.
While I also love the secondary character, Blaise, the reader does learn a little more about him than the other secondary character, Cedric. I loved Cedric’s character and cannot wait to see more from him if I remember correctly that there is another novel with him in the works.
Felix, the yoga instructor on Corfu, is just sunshine on the page. This character is more complex than meets the eye and I cannot wait to see more from him in the rest of the series.
Celine, the café owner, was the sweetest character and I loved reading about her story. Even though she is a supporting character, I connected with her character and wanted her to have a happily ever after of her own from the first time the reader meets her.
As the person in charge of Cupid when he lands in the rural US, Pan, stands out as a character. While he may not be the main character, I loved getting to know him and I hope his story develops more in the rest of the series.

Happy second Tuesday post of August! I greatly appreciate that you took the time to read this post!
Some of these “secondary” characters are more prominent in their respective novels more than the others, but they all stood out to me as characters where I would easily read a story about them as a main. I went with this interpretation compared to my other thought of characters that are either disliked or forgotten as it was difficult to decide. Therefore, I went with ten characters where I wanted to learn more about them and, again, I would want to read an entire novel with them at the center.
How about you? What secondary/minor characters do you think deserve more love? You’re welcome to post them in the comments or even give a link to your list as I would love to read them! Happy Tuesday!
