Last Year I Was Reading is hosted by Maria @ ReadingMaria. Every Thursday (or whichever day you choose), take your current read and compare it to what you were reading this exact time last year.
- Which one do you like better?
- What is different about the books?
- Any special facts/things you want to make note of or bring attention to?

Last year, I read/reviewed, Death Trace (Hound of Hades #1).

Today, I read and reviewed The Party Crasher.

To start, Death Trace is part of a series whereas The Party Crasher is a standalone. Party Crasher falls under the contemporary romance genre while Death Trace is a fantasy novel that contains a potential romance. Both take place in the modern world rather than a historical setting.
With last year’s read, unfortunately, it was not super memorable to me. While I can recall a lot of the novels that I’ve read in the past, this novel did not stand out in my mind. While I like the concept of the series, it was not fully for me at the time.
The Party Crasher was a standout novel as Sophie Kinsella took a simple concept and created an entertaining and complex story.
For choosing one novel as a favorite, this one is an easy choice based on rating alone. While I may one day return to the Hound of Hades series, I greatly prefer this year’s read, The Party Crasher.
Have you read any of these books? What did you think? What book were you reading this time last year and how does it compare to your current read?
