FairyLoot Unboxing: July 2021

As I am playing catch-up with the boxes, July is the third one that I received.

FROM FAIRYLOOT:

We are so excited to reveal the July theme for our monthly box and it is… TALES RETOLD!

There are some stories that can be retold time and time again without ever feeling like it’s the same story. We love finding fresh takes on our favourite tales that surprise us in new and magical ways, which is why we’ve dedicated this entire theme to them!

In this box you can expect items inspired by Spin The Dawn, A Court of Thorns and Roses, The Star-Touched Queen, Cinderella is Dead and Heartless. We are thrilled to reveal that this box will include a stunning booksleeve with artwork by the one and only @rosiethorns88.

Our featured book of the month is a story that we loved and draws from “The Wild Swans” and East Asian folklore. This whimsical tale has a princess in exile, a shapeshifting dragon, six enchanted cranes, and a curse that needs to be broken. The FairyLoot exclusive edition will have an UNIQUE COVER, STENCIL & SPRAYED EDGES, ARTWORK ON THE REVERSE OF THE DUST JACKET by @sallteas, FOIL EMBOSSING ON THE CASE by @sallteas and will be SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR.

Spots for new subscriptions are currently CLOSED, but you can sign up to the waiting list here. The best way to get a subscription at the moment is to sign up to the waiting list – we invite people whenever more spots become available.

Book of the Month: Six Crimson Cranes (#1) by Elizabeth Lim

Shiori, the only princess of Kiata, has a secret. Forbidden magic runs through her veins. Normally she conceals it well, but on the morning of her betrothal ceremony, Shiori loses control. At first, her mistake seems like a stroke of luck, forestalling the wedding she never wanted, but it also catches the attention of Raikama, her stepmother.

Raikama has dark magic of her own, and she banishes the young princess, turning her brothers into cranes, and warning Shiori that she must speak of it to no one: for with every word that escapes her lips, one of her brothers will die.

Peniless, voiceless, and alone, Shiori searches for her brothers, and, on her journey, uncovers a conspiracy to overtake the throne—a conspiracy more twisted and deceitful, more cunning and complex, than even Raikama’s betrayal. Only Shiori can set the kingdom to rights, but to do so she must place her trust in the very boy she fought so hard not to marry. And she must embrace the magic she’s been taught all her life to contain—no matter what it costs her.

This FairyLoot exclusive edition has an exclusive cover (below-left), stencil and sprayed edges (below-center), artwork on the reverse of the dust jacket (above) by @sallteas, foil embossing on the case by @sallteas  and is signed by the author (below-right).

While I actually completed this novel via audiobook, I loved the story and I am excited to have a gorgeous hardcopy to reread in the future!

Every collectible item and the tarot cards are all series/novels that I have on my TBR. The only one I have read is the featured novel. As it has been raining non-stop this weekend, the umbrella came in handy! I also used the book sleeve to protect my book when I went out of the house. The other three items, especially the socks, will be used soon. I need to find a place for the print and tin, but I am sure they will find their place in my house soon.

For those that do not know as much about Fairy Loot, it is a monthly fantasy book subscription box.

You can visit Fairy Loot to find out more.

As I am far behind in my unboxings, below is the theme for the next one set to arrive (November), rather than the next Unboxing month (August). Once I catch-up on these unboxings, then the months will start to line up.

If you want a potential book spoiler, then this is the novel going around online as the November novel.

FROM FAIRYLOOT:

We are so excited to reveal the November theme for our monthly box and it is… VENGEANCE IS YOURS!

An eye for an eye will leave the whole world blind . . . but sometimes the best revenge is getting even. This theme is all about the sweetness of revenge and characters who will get it by blade, or by wit.

In this box you can expect items inspired by Vicious, From Blood and Ash, The Poppy War, Rage of Dragons and our featured book of the month. We are thrilled to reveal that this box will include a TRAVEL MUG!

Our featured book of the month is inspired by Chinese mythology, and two people who discover their intertwined destinies. It is filled with revenge, rich magic and an epic slow-burn romance! This FairyLoot exclusive edition will have an EXCLUSIVE COVER, STENCIL SPRAYED EDGES, ARTWORK ON THE REVERSE OF THE DUST JACKET by @jhocaaa, FOIL ON THE HARDCOVER by @jhocaaa and will be SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR.

Spots for new subscriptions are currently CLOSED, but you can sign up to the waiting list here. The best way to get a subscription at the moment is to sign up to the waiting list – we invite people whenever more spots become available.
