~ Last Year I Was Reading – #21 (October 28, 2021) ~

Last Year I Was Reading is hosted by Maria @ ReadingMaria. Every Thursday (or whichever day you choose), take your current read and compare it to what you were reading this exact time last year.

  • Which one do you like better?
  • What is different about the books?
  • Any special facts/things you want to make note of or bring attention to?

Last year, I did not read/review any novels on October 28th. I read/reviewed House of Salt and Sorrows after this date on October 29th. Before this date, I read/reviewed Cemetery Boys on October 26th.

Expected publication: November 2nd 2021

Today, I read and reviewed The Witch Collector (The Witch Walker Trilogy #1).

All three novels feature a fantasy element, however, The Witch Collector takes place in a completely fictional world. House of Salt and Sorrows is set in a historical setting that is fictional, but could potentially be in the “real world.” Cemetery Boys is more contemporary and set in modern times with a fantasy world element mixed into the “real world.”

All three stories contain a romance element with another plot taking place at the same time. All three have a dangerous obstacle for the characters to defeat. The romance portion of the story is more in the forefront of Cemetery and Witch compared to Salt, but there is still a focus on romance in all three stories.

Each of these novels all were amazing reads, so I am not sure which one I would choose as this week’s favorite. I think I might go with Cemetery Boys just because it is a standalone. The Witch Collector was a close second, but it is part of a series, so I want to read all of them and see the big picture. House of Salt and Sorrows was still great and all three novels would be easy choices to add to my re-read list.

Have you read any of these books? What did you think? What book were you reading this time last year and how does it compare to your current read?
