~ Last Year I Was Reading – #22 (November 4, 2021) ~

Last Year I Was Reading is hosted by Maria @ ReadingMaria. Every Thursday (or whichever day you choose), take your current read and compare it to what you were reading this exact time last year.

  • Which one do you like better?
  • What is different about the books?
  • Any special facts/things you want to make note of or bring attention to?

Last year, I did not read/review any novels on November 4th. I read/reviewed one before on November 3rd, Fairy Godmothers Inc. (#1), and one after on November 4th, The Boy Toy.

Today, I read and reviewed Legendary (Caraval #2).

All three novels feature romance. While The Boy Toy is not technically a part of a series, there is a related novel, The Man Ban, which features the secondary characters as the main ones. The other two novels, Fairy Godmothers Inc. and Legendary are both parts of a series as Fairy is the first and Legendary is the second.

Each novel is set in a different place – Legendary is set in a fictional world, Boy is set in Australia, and Fairy is set in the United States. Boy Toy is contemporary in the “real world.” Legendary is a fictional fantasy, while Fairy is a mix of “real” and fantasy.

All three stories would be ones that I would read again as they all are enjoyable. I am still working on the Caraval series, so I will work on the third novel, Finale, next. For Fairy Godmothers, I have the ARC for the third novel, which I will eventually read, hopefully, this month.

While I loved reading all three of these novels, I think my favorite would be The Boy Toy. The story features an older woman and a younger man with a great exploration of culture. It was an excellent and easy read, for me.

Have you read any of these books? What did you think? What book were you reading this time last year and how does it compare to your current read?
