~ #Bookvent 2021 – Top Reads Countdown Day 5 ~

I came across this on Jen’s blog (Jen Med’s Book Reviews).

This annual countdown goes from December 1st until Christmas with one share per day. In the original challenge, the “rules” were (1)published in 2021 and (2)five-star read with “Red Hot Reads” titles automatically making the list. I kept the 2021 publish year “rule” as I have a lot of recent releases that were amazing. Since I already do my top novels of the year (5 star and sometimes 4.75 stars), I decided to highlight some of my 4.5 star reads as they are still amazing, but often get passed over in my countdowns. The choices are in a semi-random order with some novels that I enjoyed a little more making it a little higher in the countdown.

#Bookvent DAY 5

What Now? (What If #2) by Shari Low

Published January 28, 2021

Twenty years ago, Carly Cooper went on an epic quest to track down all the men she’d ever loved and lost in the hope that one of them was her Mr Right. Now, two decades and two teenage sons later, she thinks she might have got it all wrong. As the years have passed, lots of things have changed, leaving Carly asking ‘What Now?’

With a divorce and an empty nest on the horizon, Carly sets off once more to Los Angeles with her band of trusty girlfriends, to find the carefree, wild and adventurous Carly Cooper that she used to be. On this latest quest, Carly discovers a few home truths and has to decide if her marriage is worth saving or is there a new happy-ever-after out there, just waiting for her…

MY REVIEW

While this novel does relate to the initial story, What If?, and takes place afterward, each story can be read as a standalone. I ended up reading the two novels back to back and I am glad that I did as it gave great context for this one. This story opens with the main character who has her life turned upside down, so she starts to look at the next steps for her future. This includes a fun trip from her hometown in the UK to California where she gets away from it all and has a chance to reevaluate everything. The ending of this story was very satisfying and the writing was heartwarming and entertaining.

Happy Holidays and Happy Reading!
