~ #Bookvent 2021 – Top Reads Countdown Day 21 ~

I came across this on Jen’s blog (Jen Med’s Book Reviews).

This annual countdown goes from December 1st until Christmas with one share per day. In the original challenge, the “rules” were (1)published in 2021 and (2)five-star read with “Red Hot Reads” titles automatically making the list. I kept the 2021 publish year “rule” as I have a lot of recent releases that were amazing. Since I already do my top novels of the year (5 star and sometimes 4.75 stars), I decided to highlight some of my 4.5 star reads as they are still amazing, but often get passed over in my countdowns. The choices are in a semi-random order with some novels that I enjoyed a little more making it a little higher in the countdown.

#Bookvent DAY 21

The Beach Reads Book Club by Kathryn Freeman

Published June 30th 2021

Welcome to the Beach Reads Book Club…where love is just a page away…

When Lottie Watt is unceremoniously booted out of her uptight book club for not following the rules, she decides to throw the rulebook out the window and start her own club – one where conversation, gin and cake take precedent over actually having read the book!

The Beach Reads Book Club soon finds a home for its meetings at Books by the Bay, a charming bookshop and café owned by gorgeous, brooding Matthew Steele, and as the book club picks heat up, so too does the attraction between Matt and Lottie.

If there’s anything Lottie has learned from the romances she’s been reading, it’s that the greatest loves are the ones hardest earned.

MY REVIEW

I originally came across this novel for a blog tour where it sounded fun. I came across the author with her other novel Mr. Right Across the Street. While that story had its good and bad points, for me, it made me intrigued to read more from the author. This story does focus on the two main characters, Lottie and Matthew, but it also has a lot of quirky secondary characters that bring some lightness to each situation. The book club sounds like one I would love to join as they are a mix of age groups who are all at different stages in their life that are brought together by a love of reading. I have a smaller book club that I have with my friends, but I would love to join a second one like the one in this book as it sounds like a joyful experience. This novel had a sweet romance and fun characters where I would definitely read more from the author.

Happy Holidays and Happy Reading!
