Before voting concluded on December 4th, I posted both the novels that I would vote for in each category along with my predicted winner. Most of the time, my predicted winner was different than my voted novel as I either did not read the predicted novel or I just thought that my voted novel would not be popular enough to win. [You can visit my Final Votes post to see a more detailed layout of my two choices for each category.]
Best Fiction
My Vote: The Hotel Nantucket by Elin Hilderbrand
My Predicted Winner: Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng
Winner: Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin.
None of the three novels match, but I heard the winning novel is amazing, so I will have to read it soon.

Best Mystery & Thriller
My Vote: Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney
My Predicted Winner: The Maid by Nita Prose
Winner: The Maid by Nita Prose
As I have read a ton of praise for the winning novel, it is one that I really should read soon.

Best Historical Fiction
My Vote: Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid
My Predicted Winner: Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Winner: Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid
The winner of this category is definitely not a surprise as it not only was extremely popular, but it was also well liked.

Best Fantasy
My Vote: Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan
My Predicted Winner: House of Sky and Breath (A Crescent City novel) by Sarah J. Maas
Winner: House of Sky and Breath (A Crescent City novel) by Sarah J. Maas
I have heard amazing reviews of this series, so I may have voted for it as all the elements that I love in a story are there, but as it was on my TBR, I voted for my favorite novel that I did read.

Best Romance
My Vote: Hook, Line, and Sinker (Bellinger Sisters #2) by Tessa Bailey
My Predicted Winner: Book Lovers by Emily Henry
Winner: Book Lovers by Emily Henry
I have yet to read this novel, but I still have it on my TBR. I’m disappointed that my vote did not win, but I know Emily Henry writes great novels.

Best Humor
My Vote: The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of the Whole Stupid World by Matt Kracht
My Predicted Winner: All About Me by Mel Brooks
Winner: The Office BFFs by Jenna Fischer & Angela Kinsey
All of the nominated novels seem interesting, so it was a guess about which would win.

Best Graphic Novels & Comics
My Vote: Heartstopper: Volume 4 by Alice Oseman
My Predicted Winner: Lore Olympus: Volume 2 by Rachel Smythe
Winner: Heartstopper: Volume 4 by Alice Oseman
As Lore Olmpus won last year over Heartstopper, I thought it would be the same this year. I am thrilled though that my voted novel won, though.

Best Memoir & Autobiography
My Vote: I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy
My Predicted Winner: I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy
Winner: I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy
I’m glad that my voted novel won this category.

Best Young Adult Fantasy & Science Fiction
My Vote: The Ballad of Never After (OUABH #2) by Stephanie Garber
My Predicted Winner: Foul Lady Fortune (Foul Lady Fortune #1) by Chloe Gong
Winner: Gallant by V.E. Schwab
All of the nominated novels were both popular and well-received, so it was difficult to predict which would win.

Best Young Adult Fiction
My Vote: I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston
My Predicted Winner: All My Rage by Sabaa Tahir
Winner: The Final Gambit by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Lots of these novels are on my TBR and I still need to try to read them soon.

Best Debut Novel
My Vote: Daughter of the Moon Goddess (Celestial Kingdom #1) by Sue Lynn Tan
My Predicted Winner: The Maid by Nita Prose
Winner: Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
The winning novel seems to be well-loved so I cannot wait to read it! While my voted novel did not win, I am glad that it came in second.

Best Middle Grade & Children’s
My Vote: Witchlings by Claribel A. Ortega
My Predicted Winner: Witchlings by Claribel A. Ortega
Winner: I Am Quiet: A Story for the Introvert in All of Us by Andie Powers
This is not my usual category, so all of these sound interesting and had a nice chance of winning.

Best History & Biography
My Vote: N/A
My Predicted Winner: The Dark Queens by Shelley Puhak
Winner: Bad Gays: A Homosexual History by Huw Lemmey
This was a random guessing game as I am not familiar with many of the nominated novels.

Best Science Fiction
My Vote: N/A
My Predicted Winner: Nona the Ninth by Namsyn Muir
Winner: Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel
I do not typically read a lot of science fiction as the main genre (usually it is mixed with some fantasy), so I haven’t read any on this list, but I am willing to try them in the future.

Best Horror
My Vote: N/A
My Predicted Winner: What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher
Winner: Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak
This category was a complete guessing game about which novel would win, so given the amount of great novels to choose from, I was not surprised that my prediction was wrong.

Best Nonfiction
My Vote: N/A
My Predicted Winner: An Immense World by Ed Yong
Winner: Atlas of the Heart: Mapping Meaningful Connection and the Language of Human Experience by Brene Brown
This category was a random guess for a predicted winner as I have heard of most of the nominees equally.

Only five of my predicted novels ended up winning, which is not bad considering I randomly guessed in some categories. For my actual voted choices, three of them ended up winning, and I am happy that novels that I loved were also enjoyed by others. It is amazing to me that last year I had the same numbers where three voted novels and five predicted novels matched the winners. I cannot wait to see what next year’s awards hold and how many of my voted novels or predicted winners will get an award in the end.
Which novel(s) did you vote for (if you did) or did you enjoy the most?
